Has the summer heatwave got you day-dreaming about that illustrious pint at the end of the day?
The one that can't possibly live up to the image you have in your minds-eye, but when the time rolls around, it's, somehow, even better!
You can picture it now... the perfectly crisp colour, the cloud-like fluffy head, the beading condensation on the side of the glass.
And if you can't picture it we've got a little inspiration for you:
Here's our shortlist of the best looking beers from the silver screen for you to fantasize over while counting down the hours until it's 5'oclock (Somewhere)...
1. Django Unchained
Maybe it’s the dusty, dry western setting that makes this beer look so refreshing, maybe it’s that this beer glass looks like the only clean thing throughout this whole Tarantino flick, but when Christoph Waltz presents Jamie Foxx with this this glowing, bubbling beauty of a beer, it jumps off the screen so vividly that you can practically taste the freedom it represents!
2. Shawshank Redemption
Another Beer = Freedom Metaphor… maybe this is a trope that needs further analysis and exploration, or at the very least a discussion with my therapist about my career choices.
3. Shaun Of The Dead (Cornetto Trilogy)
Have any film makers done more to glamourise the great British Pub than Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost? Our official pick goes to Simon Pegg’s cheeky, pint in hand, wink from Shaun of the Dead but honourable mentions go to the Pub Crawl Montage from World’s End and the quick cut drinks pouring scene from Hot Fuzz (Just for the sound of the taps as the beers are poured!)
Not only is this the only pick on this list to feature a proper pint of English Cask Ale, but it’s the image I think of everytime i sit down for a beer at my local.
4. Jaws
You’d think a can wouldn’t have the same appeal since the liquid is never shown but whenever I watch Jaws, I can feel of the cold of the can in my hand with a light sweat of condensation from the cold box, and that paired with the sparse, warm ocean scenery makes this tin of Narragansett Lager look like the classiest drink in the world.
And the way Captain Clint crushes the can when he’s through with it… Iconic!
5. Ice Cold In Alex
Yes it’s Carlsberg, Yes the head size is obscene and would garnish a scornful look towards any British bartender who dared place this in front of me, but if you asked me 1000 times to picture the most refreshing looking beer in the world, I’d recommend Ice Cold in Alex to you 1000 times. Even in black and white, this beer manages to look absolutely delicious. Oppressive heat and a hard slog across the dessert resolve perfectly at the end of the film when John Mills knocks this back in one smooth motion.
(The most amazing product placement by Carlsberg since this image has lived rent free in my head since before I was old enough to drink)
