Best Beer Gardens in the North West

The sun is out and you want to make the most of it whilst it lasts…but where to go?!

Manchester gets more than its fair share of rain throughout the year, but there are some amazing beer gardens in (or close to) Manchester for when the sun does shine. Here’s our rundown of some of the best beer gardens so that you can get there fast.

1. Dukes 92 - Manchester City Center

Dukes 92 Beer Garden

Famous for its iconic suntrap terrace, Dukes 92 is a fantastic spot for a pint or two in the summer. Located in the trendy urban area of Castlefield, Dukes 92 is just a short hop away from Deansgate, so you can enjoy making a day of it visiting the various shops, bars and restaurants in the area. The outdoor tables aren’t available to book, and you can guarantee the beer garden will be packed out on a hot summer’s day so be sure to get there early!

2. The Wharf - Manchester City Centre

Located just opposite Dukes 92 on the other side of the canal, you have The Wharf. A more traditional pub serving great cask ale and amazing food, it’s a top spot for when you want to sit outside soaking up the Manchester sun and take your pooch with you. Set alongside the canal, it’s a perfect place to watch the beautifully decorated barges, geese and the world go by with your beer. If you enjoy a bitter, we recommend their BP Original Bitter.

3. Lytham Bierhaus – Lytham

A bit further away, but well worth the drive out, is Lytham Bierhaus. Situated in the heart of Lytham town centre, Lytham Bierhaus has a cosy beer garden to enjoy when the sun is out. Moreover, once you’ve enjoyed sipping your pint, why not grab some chips and head for a walk down the front and along the beach?

4. The Ship Hotel - Parkgate, Wirral

Fancy escaping the city? We love a roof terrace beer garden, and The Ship Hotel in Parkgate is a fabulous little hidden gem. Looking out over the River Dee, The Ship Hotel offers some amazing views and is another pub we’d recommend popping out to see. Serving up traditional British classics alongside their seasonal specials, it’s not to be missed. Enjoy washing your meal down with a choice of cask ale, craft beer, or a selection of world wines and gins. There’s something here for everyone.

5. HOME – Manchester City Centre

The ground floor bar at HOME in Manchester City Centre is another favourite of ours and considered one of the best beer gardens in Manchester. You can get to HOME just off Oxford Road, and it’s situated in a newly renovated area of the city centre. If you’re looking to keep yourself entertained for the afternoon, why not check what shows are on in the theatre?

6. The Briton's Protection - Manchester City Center

Last but by no means least, we have The Britons Protection. A pub famous for its selection of cask ales, and vast whisky menu, The Britons Protection sits in the heart of Manchester and makes for a great stopping point for those who love a traditional, old-school boozer, looking for an authentic Manchester experience. With a beer garden to the rear, you can enjoy the perfect pint and catch a tan at the same time!
